Born in Vienna, Dr. Anton Novak studied Machinery Engineering at Vienna's Technical University and wrote his thesis on the Stochastic Dynamics of Cars. He joined Austrian Airlines first as system analyst for flight operations and occupied various functions within the airline. In 1995, he was in charge of implementing the airline's data center, in 1999 he worked on implementing the Balanced Scorecard System for the airline and in 2003 he implemented a target reporting system (Balanced-Scorecard) in technical maintenance. He then worked on enhancing the Technical Maintenance's Department's public relations and communications program before recently being assigned as Manager for Environmental Affairs in 2007.

Angus Barclay

Mr Angus Barclay is General Manager International Affairs for Cathay Pacific Airways in Hong Kong. His role includes securing international operating rights for Cathay Pacific both to and across other countries, as well as having responsibility for Cathay Pacific’s Environment Office, in recognition both of the importance and the international implications of Environmental issues for the airline.
Angus is one of a number of senior managers seconded to Cathay Pacific Airways from the airline’s main shareholder, the Swire group. He joined Swires in 1987 and over the past 20 years has worked for 3 companies within the group in 6 different countries. His first 13 years with the group were with Cathay Pacific, first as a Management Trainee in Hong Kong and Korea, then managing the airline’s passenger loyalty clubs in Hong Kong. In 1991-2 Angus was Cathay Pacific’s Country Manager India, Nepal and Bangladesh based in Bombay. He then worked in Revenue Management in Hong Kong before being appointed Country Manager for the Benelux in 1995 based in Amsterdam and then, in 1997, Country Manager for Singapore.
In 2000 Angus was seconded to John Swire and Sons Pty Ltd, the Swire group’s holding company in Australia. As Commercial Manager, he held Directorships of the group’s subsidiary companies which included Trucking Operations (Kalari and Transwest); Steel Industry Materials Handling (Metserv); Cold Storage (Woodmason’s Cold Storage, Frigmobile and South Australian Cold Storage); and the Swire Shipping Agencies in both Australia and Malaysia. In 2003 Angus returned to the aviation sector as Director and General Manager of Cathay Pacific Catering Services (Hong Kong) Ltd: one of the world’s largest flight kitchens with 1,600 staff producing 60,000 meals per day for 35 different airlines.
In August 2006 Angus Barclay was seconded once more to Cathay Pacific Airways as General Manager International Affairs.

Dubravka Turkalj has been working for Croatia Airlines since 1991 in various senior-level managing positions. As a Director of Strategic Planning and Development, she attended Cambridge University where she obtained an Advanced Diploma in Sustainability in 2004 and a Postgraduate Certificate in Cross-sector Partnership in 2005. Following this, she worked on the creation and implementation of an integrated sustainable development system within Croatia Airlines including environment, corporate social responsibility and sustainable economics as well as on the issues related to the upcoming European Emissions Trading Scheme. She is also Co-chair of the Association for Corporate Social Responsibility for the Croatian Chamber of Commerce as well as member of the Croatian Business Council for Sustainable Development's managing board.
She specializes in sustainable development, cross-sector partnerships, corporate social responsibility, strategic and corporate planning, fleet planning, fleet economics and fleet financing, budgeting and controlling, investment projects and marketing.

Heikki Helander

Heikki Helander joined Finnair as Performance Engineer in 1974 after one year Military Service in Finnish Airforce. He has held different positions within the Finnair Flight Operations Division. Since 1990 Heikki has been acting as Director of Flight Operations Engineering. In addition he has been member of Finnair Fleet Evaluation Team.
His responsibilities include aircraft performance, payload/range/weight issues, environmental issues, operational costs and profitability analysis, and noise and emission issues (Environmental Team from 1992 on).
Heikki has been lecturer in Helsinki University of Technology and some other Universities. As well as this, he has taught different courses in Finnair and other airlines.
Heikki studied at Helsinki University of Technology in Aeronautical Engineering.

The company developed into Flybe, the low cost regional airline, which is now, with the acquisition of BA Connect the largest low cost regional airline in Europe, flying the most modern and environmentally friendly fleet of turbo prop and jets aircraft in the world – with the Bombardier Q400 and the Embraer 195.
Steve was previously a Director of Biffa, the Environmental Services Group and prior to that worked in senior positions in both GKN and Smiths Group

Christoph Fuellemann

Christoph Fuellemann has been working in the aviation industry for over 22 years. He started his career in this field working as a process engineer in aircraft maintenance in SRTechnics, the maintenance department of former Swissair. He then moved on to create an environmental competence centre within the SAirGroup (former Swissair Group). While in this position, he dealt with all environmental issues of the airline, from waste treatment to legal compliance, aircraft de-icing , ecological reporting and supporting management in strategy and target processes. It is under his leadership that the former Swissair Group produced the first Environmental Report ever published by an airline.
In 2001, Mr. Fuellemann was assigned special tasks in the field of the Kyoto protocol and flexible mechanisms. He worked on the first trials with a CDM project in Kenya together with the former Swissair, two Swiss banks, a re-insurance company, the World Bank and WHO.
Today, Mr. Fuellemann is SWISS International Airlines’ Environmental Delegate and deals with the main environmental issues related to company strategy, environmental and political affairs (EU ETS), aircraft emissions and noise. He is a member of an expert group "Environmental Management Systems" at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and is also a member of the Swiss Federal Department for Transport’s "Aviation and sustainability" project. Mr. Fuellemann is also a member of the climate change working group of the Association of European Airlines AEA.

Mr. Nertun has been working for Scandinavian Airlines Systems (SAS) since 1990. He first joined as the National Manager for Health, Safety & Environment and was promoted to Environment and Sustainability Director in 1994. He has published several articles on environment and air transport and is involved in many international environmental committees.
Mr. Nertun graduated from the University of Oslo with a degree in natural sciences and is a guest lecturer at various universities and institutes in Europe.

In late 2006 Sian moved to the newly-formed Business Sustainability team at Virgin Atlantic, which is tasked with developing and embedding sustainability objectives throughout the airline, and now works on a wide range of projects relating to aviation and climate change.

Toby Campbell-Colquhoun

Toby Campbell-Colquhoun is an environmental products trader at Shell Trading. Shell's environmental trading business has operations in London, Beijing, Tokyo and Houston and holds positions in more than 15 different environmental markets. In addition to managing the compliance positions of Shell installations, the business is a significant proprietary trading house, adding liquidity across the spectrum of environmental markets.
Toby studied biological sciences at Oxford University and holds an MSc in environmental technology from Imperial College. Following the completion of a project on UK industry’s preparation for greenhouse gas emissions regulation, Toby began working for Shell in 2001.
Toby has enjoyed the challenge of developing Shell’s environmental product trading business from its infancy into today’s successful global business, during a period of significant market evolution. His current role includes managing Shell’s compliance position in a number of environmental product markets, including CO2 and NOx, managing origination across Europe in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) and developing new business with other organisations currently outside the scope of the EU ETS.

Arturo Benito is Head of Air Transport Department at Madrid Polytechnic University. The Department delivers Air Transportation, Air Transport Management and Aviation Environmental Impact Courses for Engineering Graduates, Airline Management and Transportation Systems for Master students, and Aviation Sustainability and Network and Fleet Planning for PhD students. It is also doing research for the Spanish Government on Sustainable aviation, Environmental Levies and Emissions Trading.
Before taking that position, he worked for Iberia Airlines of Spain. Within Iberia, he has been Head of Performance and Power Plant Engineering Department, Head of Aircraft Analysis in the Planning Group and Director Corporate Studies in the Strategic Planning Department. Since 1997 until May 2006 was Director Fleet Planning&Environment.
He has been Iberia representative in oneworld environmental group (2000-2006), Chairman of the IATA Environmental Task Force (2002-2005), Chairman of AEA Infrastructure Environment Committee (2003-2006) and is now Advisor of the Spanish delegation in ICAO Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP).
His involvement in aviation started in 1970, within the Project Department of Construcciones Aeronáuticas (formerly CASA, now EADS-Spain), working in utility
and regional transport design, like C-212 and CN-235, and afterwards as Advisor to CASA’s Commercial VP for civil market.
He has Master and Doctor Degrees in Aeronautical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, where teaches Air Transportation as a Professor since 1981. He is also a Graduate in Journalism from the University of Madrid, author of two books on air transport and a regular contributor to aeronautical publications.

Maria Joao Calha

Maria Joao graduated from New University of Lisbon with a degree in Environmental Engineering. She started her career working in the Ministry for the Environment, Regional Planning and Regional Development (Integrated Pollution Prevention Control - IPPC Department).
She joined TAP Portugal’s Environmental Department in 2004 and is now TAP’s Environmental Manager – Corporate Environmental Affairs and member of IATA Environment Committee. Her main responsibilities in TAP are:
- To propose environmental strategic guidelines to the Board;
- To give technical support to the Board in Climate Change issues as the inclusion of aviation in the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme – EU-ETS;
- To monitor and control the Environmental Management Programmes, in line with the continuous improvement principle adopted by TAP (industrial waste management, waste separation/recycling programmes, energy management);
- To analyse TAP’s environmental performance through greenhouse gas emissions inventories;
- To give technical advice and support to TAP’s Business Unities/Companies;
- To promote environmental responsibility and awareness within the Group.
Maria Joao is also TAP’s Delegate in the Climate Change Working Group of the Association of European Airlines (AEA).

From the beginning of his professional career, David has been working on environment issues, harmonizing business work with research in the Spanish electricity sector.
He has been Head of Asinel’s Laboratory of Atmosphere and later worked for UNESA’s Environment Department where he initiated a task group working on Climate Change within the electricity industry.
At present time David is the Deputy-Director of the Environment Area for Generation, Mining and Climate Change at Endesa and is responsible for all issues related to generation and mining businesses, specially the ones related to climate change technical and legislative reality. He is involved in the Spanish Association of CO2, participating in the Working Group dealing with regulatory issues.
Internationally, David is an active member of the E7 Climate Change Group, as well as Chairman of Eurelectric’s CDM & JI sub-group. Furthermore, he is Endesa’s representative at CDCF’s carbon fund and the Spanish Carbon Fund at World Bank and he was the President of the Participants Comitte (CDCF Fund) two years ago as well as member of the Spanish Commission for the CDM & JI Pilot Programme.

Olivia Hartridge has a BA (Hons) in politics, philosophy and economics from Balliol College, Oxford and an MSc in environmental economics from University College London. She started working in climate change in 2000 for the UK Government where she co-wrote the rules and ran the auction for the UK emissions trading scheme - the first traded carbon market.
In 2003, Olivia joined the European Commission to work on implementing the EU emissions trading scheme. Here, she initially concentrated on finalising the legislation itself, overseeing and drafting its daughter legislation (monitoring and reporting guidelines and registries regulation), assessing national allocation plans, and managing the setup of the EU electronic registries system across 25 countries. She then became responsible for relations with developed countries on climate change, and finally worked on the legislative proposal to bring international aviation into the EU scheme.
In 2007, Olivia joined Morgan Stanley as an originator on the carbon trading desk. Here, she is responsible for the recently announced “carbon bank” – the first fully-integrated carbon auditing and offsetting service based on the highest international standards.

Andrei Marcu is President and CEO of the International Emissions Trading Association, a business association with offices in Geneva, Switzerland and Toronto, Canada. IETA includes organizations such as bp, Shell, Tokyo Electric, Ontario Power, Dupont, TransAlta, etc dedicated to the creation of an efficient and environmentally robust market for greenhouse gases to address the issue of global warming and climate change.
In this capacity he has been deeply involved in COP process and the national and international effort to make the provisions of the Kyoto Protocol operational and create its governance regime
Mr. Marcu has spent most of his career in the electric power industry with Ontario Hydro in Toronto, Canada where he has worked in many areas of the corporation in a senior capacity position including contracts, energy efficiency, regulatory affairs, and international operations.
As Deputy Managing Director of the E7 and Chair of the Climate Change Subcommittee he has had the opportunity to work on issues related to sustainable energy development in a sector critical to development and in implementation of Agenda 21.
He has also worked in the field of development as Manager of Private Sector Cooperation in the United Nations Development Programme, where he has pioneered cooperation between the UN system and multinational corporations.
Mr. Marcu holds a degree in electrical engineering from McGill University in Montreal and an MBA from the University of Toronto.

Niels Ladefoged is policy officer in the "Clean Air and Transport Unit" of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Environment.He has been working on environmental aspects of EU air transport policy since 2001 and been responsible for developing the Commission's new strategy on aviation and climate change. Before coming to the Commission Mr Ladefoged worked for the Danish Energy Administration on a number of issues ranging from energy demand forecasting to renewable electricity support schemes. Mr Ladefoged has a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with specialisation in energy conversion and emissions.

Prof. Dr. Robert Sausen has been Head of the Department of Atmospheric Dynamics at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V. (DLR) since 1991, and Professor at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. His expertise includes global climate modeling including climate impact of transport emissions. He was Coordinating Lead Author of a chapter of the IPCC Special Report "Aviation and the Global Atmosphere” (1999) and contributed to several other IPCC reports. Currently he coordinates the EC Integrated Project QUANTIFY, quantifying the climate impact of transport. He is author of more than 70 peer reviewed papers. He was awarded the Otto-Lilienthal Research-Semester in 2000.

Seb has a M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences, policy specialisation. Seb completed his thesis on Environmental Mediation as part of joint Program on Negotation at Harvard Law School and MIT, Boston, USA.
From 1996 until 1999 Seb used to teach strategic energy management and environmental accounting at the University of Amsterdam, faculty of Economics. There he also did contract research for the European Commission on emissions as well as worked on a Ph.D. on the interaction between regulatory frameworks and corporate governance in multinationals.
From 1999 until 2003 Seb was the Manager environmental products at Nuon Energy Trade & Wholesale. Following a stint in Business Development in Nuon Renewables, he set up a leading environmental products trading desk. In particular Seb explored new cross border arbitrage opportunities and approaches for various national green and carbon policies and systems anticipating and profiting from frequent changes in legislation.
In 2003 Seb established Europe's first financial institution carbon desk at Fortis. The desk aims to reduce greenhouse emissions efficiently through portfolios of reduction projects, and to use those reductions to optimise and ensure compliance for a pan-European corporate client portfolio. The activities of this desk range from valuing environmental benefits in long term discounted cash flow models for project finance, to short term pure trading and long term hedging.

Gilles Corre is a Director, European Environmental Markets for EVOLUTION MARKETS INC. Mr. Corre leads Evolution Markets emissions brokerage operation in Europe, directing the company’s industry-leading European emissions allowance and Kyoto credits brokerage desk and providing structured transaction services for global emissions credits.
Based in Evolution Markets’ London office, Mr. Corre brokers transactions in Kyoto credits for utilities, manufacturers, financial institutions, and project developers. He also directs the company’s business development activities for Europe, educating European emissions market participants and introducing new transaction structures. In addition, Mr. Corre advises European corporations and financial institutions on developing risk management programs for the global carbon market, including transaction-oriented solutions for carbon allowances and structuring trades in carbon credits.
Mr. Corre brings to Evolution Markets an extensive knowledge base of environmental markets, as well as significant management expertise. Prior to joining Evolution Markets, he was a founder and senior executive of several technology companies, including firms in the software and technology consulting sectors. A native of France, Mr. Corre graduated from the Universite Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris and a Masters of Physics degree from California State University in San Jose.

Working across TUI UK, Danni covers both Airline and Tour operator Industry Affairs issues in the UK and the EU, identifying proposals or media support for change and introduction of legislation that could impact on the tourism industry. Prior to joining TUI UK Danni graduated from the University of the West of England with a degree in business studies, focusing on communication. Before joining TUI UK Danni also worked for British Nuclear Fuels communication office, focusing on local stakeholder relations and public relations.

His responsibilities in this position mainly consist in developing and structuring carbon products for compliance companies in the ETS. He has over 6 years of experience in the energy sector and worked for E.ON Benelux in Rotterdam and Luminus in Hasselt (Belgium). During his studies in Business Economics he wrote a Master’s thesis at the University of Calgary about the implications of emissions trading for the Canadian electricity sector.

Christophe Schmeitzky works in Ernst&Young’s Sustainability Assurance and Advisory Services in Paris. He has been with the firm for 14 years and is an accredited verifier for CO2 verification (EU ETS) in France, UK and Luxembourg. Christophe is also an accredited verifier for ISO14001 EMS.
Christophe’s area of specialization is climate change and greenhouse gases emissions verification. In this regard, he has worked on the verification of CO2 emissions within the frame of the CO2 Directive with EXXONMOBIL, TOTAL and ARCELOR. He has also worked on the verification of CO2 emissions within the frame of the CO2 Directive in other sectors: SAINT-GOBAIN, EDF, La SNET and participated in sustainable development reporting and environmental data verification and site audits for clients like AIRBUS and AIR FRANCE-KLM (first common CSR report and Air France-KLM’s group environmental policy drafting), MACQUARIE, CARLYLE GROUP, APAX PARTNERS, PAI, SUEZ INDUSTRIE and MONITOR CLIPPER.
Recently, Christophe led the Association of European Airlines’ economical analysis of the European Commission proposal to include aviation activities in the Emission Trading Scheme in 2011. This included an impact study of the cost of purchasing allowances from 2011 to 2022 and a discussion of economical assumptions made by the European Commission.
