Preparing For The Regulation: Understanding The Carbon Market, Emissions Trading And Your Options For Devising An Efficient Carbon Management Strategy
Examining the details of carbon management, this workshop will start by focusing on how to develop a competitive and efficient strategy looking at the different options currently available and will explain how to gain competitive advantage by devising a complete strategy early on. The facilitators will also look into the details of the European Emissions Trading Scheme and use their long term experience of the carbon market to discuss real case studies. Topics covered include:
- To offset or not to offset - what kinds of credits are available to airlines and which ones are the best for their objectives
- Importance of buying quality offsets in order to protect yourself from offsetting pitfalls: greenwashing, avoiding becoming a tabloid story, etc.
- How to manage risks and maximise opportunities presented - not necessarily a doom and gloom scenario
- Carbon tax vs. cap and trade - the advantages and disadvantages

Achieving ETS Compliance – Preparing The Necessary Legal Evidence
Looking in detail at the legal aspects of emissions trading, this practical, interactive workshop will provide delegates with a clear understanding of the compliance issues relating to the ETS. Which documents do you need? How can you obtain them quickly? How should you prepare and present the data?
Further developing the issues raised during the compliance focus groups on day 2, this workshop will present:
- An explanation of the data collection process and correct presentation of emissions data in order to ensure that it will be accepted by the relevant authorities.
- Understand how the CERs and VERs are set, how to sell them and the legal implications of offsetting.
Workshop participants will also discuss the banking of allowances, the regulatory structure and its impacts on Phase II, ensuring that they have a complete understanding of ETS compliance.

Practical Tools and Methodologies For Determining The Financial Costs Of ETS Implementation
In order to deliver cost-efficiency in the long-term, airlines need to understand the financial repercussions of the ETS and its implementation, in particular the cost implications for internal operations.
